Repair Project for Paper Pulp Waste Handling in Morocco

One of Stemm’s most recent projects involved the complete refurbishment of an electrohydraulic orange peel grab used for handling paper pulp waste. The equipment was required to operate with high precision inside a long duct with a restricted diameter, which meant that the intervention included full disassembly, structural inspection, replacement of critical components, and the upgrade of hydraulic and electrical systems.

This project restored the grab to full operational condition, ensuring safety, reliability, and long-term durability in a demanding industrial environment. In this article, we present another example of Stemm’s capability to develop tailor-made solutions for complex applications.

The Project: Repair of an Electrohydraulic Orange Peel Grab for Paper Pulp Waste in Morocco

The grab had to operate inside a duct between 25 and 30 meters in length, with an approximate diameter of 1,800 mm, which required extremely precise dimensions. This constraint turned the intervention into a true engineering challenge, as any deviation in size or performance would have made the equipment unusable in the plant. For this reason, the work was planned as a complete rehabilitation of the unit.

The initial condition of the grab showed structural damage, fatigue in hydraulic components, and general wear resulting from intensive use in a harsh industrial environment. From that point, a comprehensive process was carried out, including full disassembly, inspection, structural corrections, replacement of critical components, and upgrading of the electrical and hydraulic systems. The objective was not only to recover the original functionality of the equipment, but also to guarantee reliable, safe, and long-lasting operation under real working conditions.

A key phase of the project was the final validation. The refurbished electrohydraulic orange peel grab was subjected to numerous operating cycles on a test bench, as well as leak-tightness tests and complete verification of all electrical and hydraulic systems. Thanks to this process, the equipment was certified as fully operational before being shipped to Morocco.

Importance and Specialisation of the Project

The final application of the grab has significant technical and environmental relevance. Handling paper pulp waste requires extremely robust equipment capable of working with wet, fibrous, and difficult-to-compact materials, often in confined spaces. The dimensional accuracy of the grab, precisely matched to the duct diameter, is essential to ensure interference-free operation.

Likewise, hydraulic and electrical reliability is critical in this type of installation, where any failure results in long shutdowns and high costs. For this reason, the repair was carried out with a maximum technical rigour approach, reinforcing the safety, durability, and performance of the equipment.

This type of project highlights the importance of industrial rehabilitation as an alternative to replacing equipment with new machinery, allowing customers to optimise investment, reduce downtime, and contribute to more sustainable management of industrial resources.

Stemm: A Model Project of Custom Engineering and Industrial Refurbishment

The intervention performed on this electrohydraulic orange peel grab for Morocco is a clear example of Stemm’s ability to undertake custom engineering projects, even under particularly complex conditions. The combination of experience in hydraulic systems, high-load structural design, automation, and quality control has made it possible to return this equipment to service with performance levels comparable to those of new equipment.

Beyond manufacturing, this project highlights rehabilitation services as a strategic solution for industries that require reliable equipment adapted to specific spaces and demanding operating conditions. The restoration of this grab has not only extended its service life but has also ensured its perfect integration into a delicate and continuous industrial process such as paper pulp waste treatment.

This project carried out for Morocco, strengthens Stemm’s image as a technology partner capable of delivering complete solutions—from design and manufacturing to full refurbishment of machinery for special applications.
