STEMM has developed a new IoT module designed to detect problems in electro-hydraulic orange-peel grabs and clamshell buckets within an operating range of up to 50 metres. The system is part of its industrial oil-hydraulics consultancy service, with the aim of improving diagnostic capability in environments where operational continuity is critical.

The solution is designed to work directly on equipment in operation, with no need to stop work, providing useful information for real-time technical decision-making.

Diagnostics for hydraulic systems in operation

STEMM’s consultancy service focuses on the analysis of cylinders and oil-hydraulic systems operating under demanding conditions. Through the IoT module and extensive field experience, anomalies, recurring faults and the root causes of breakdowns can be identified with a high degree of accuracy.

This approach enables interventions based on sounder technical judgement, especially where response times are decisive in avoiding prolonged downtime or major damage to the installation.

The system is optimised for compact or high-density operating environments, where the 50-metre operating range is particularly relevant.

A digital platform for instant access to technical know-how

The consultancy service is supported by a cloud platform accessible from mobile devices. Information is presented in a structured way, linking symptoms, causes and solutions based on real operating cases.

This makes it easier for technicians with different levels of experience to interpret incidents and act more quickly, relying on previously validated procedures.

The platform is not just a repository, but a decision-support tool during real interventions.

Impact on maintenance operations

Continued use of the system allows maintenance teams to take on greater autonomy in resolving incidents. In many cases, this translates into less reliance on external assistance and a direct improvement in operational efficiency.

In addition, the platform is constantly updated with new cases, technical adjustments and functional improvements, keeping the system aligned with the evolution of installations and the needs of the sector.
